The Vilar de la Duquessa is a unique space surrounded by nature, history and tranquillity, located in the upper part of the medieval town of Cardona. It specialises in organising social and corporate events for companies, groups or individuals looking for a natural and peaceful setting, with an exclusive and personalised service.
The Valentí Fuster Auditorium is located in the former Modern Cinema of Cardona, an emblematic building that presides over the entrance to the municipality and has a capacity for up to 450 people. Its main objective is to promote healthy living as the cornerstone of Dr. Valentí Fuster's scientific project, which is being developed in the town of Cardona.
The church of Sant Miquel is an outstanding example of Gothic architecture, originally built in the 11th century in the Romanesque style as part of the canonical church of Sant Vicenç. It was remodelled in the 14th century to its current Gothic form, with a central nave and side chapels, and was consecrated in 1397. Later, in the 16th century, a crypt was added, dedicated to the martyrs Celdoni and Ermenter. It still conserves elements of interest such as a 15th-century baptismal font, the altarpiece of Santa Anna, works by the Master of the Anemic Figures and Pere Vall, including important fragments of mural decoration and panels in museums such as the Diocesà i Comarcal de Solsona and the Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, in Barcelona, testifying to its rich artistic and religious history.
Extremely fragile and beautiful, the Cardona Salt Mountain consists of a sprawling diapir measuring approximately 1,800 m long and 600 m wide. Included in the "Pla d'Espais d'Interès Natural" (Protected natural areas of Catalonia), its saline deposits belong to the so-called Catalan potassic basin. This salt valley has been exploited since Neolithic times and the commercialisation of salt has been of great importance in this territory throughout history. Today it is also of great touristic interest, hence the creation of the Salt Mountain Cultural Park.
Seemingly plucked straight from a period film, the Castle of Cardona is considered one of the most important medieval fortresses in the whole of Catalonia. Romanesque and Gothic in style, it is located on a hilltop where, thousands of years ago, the Saracens nearly destroyed it during one of their raids. It was later restored by Louis the Pious. The most outstanding buildings are the 10th-century "Torre de la Minyona" (Maiden's Tower) and the church of Sant Vicenç.
